Garment Claims – An Overview

Amy’s Green Dry Cleaning does its utmost to care for your garment. Though we have an extremely low rate of garment issues, they will arise from time to time. In the dry cleaning business garment damage and claims can be very tricky due to the wide number of reasons garment damage can arise. An example might be a care label may be improperly labeled or a garment may be torn on our watch due to a wear and tear issue. Though no one is ever perfect we try our best to limit any and all damage and deal with claims fairly.

General Terms



We exercise the utmost care in processing articles entrusted to us and use such processes which, In our opinion, are best suited to the nature and condition of each individual article.  Nevertheless, we cannot assume responsibility for inherent weaknesses of or defects in materials that are not readily apparent prior to processing.  This applies particularly, but not exclusively, to suedes, leathers, silks, satins, double-faced fabrics, vinyls, polyurethanes, ect.  Responsibility also is disclaimed for trimmings, buckles, beads, buttons, belts and sequins.

In laundering we cannot guarantee against color loss and shrinkage: or against damage to weak and tender fabrics.  Differences in count must be reported, and ticket presented, within 48 hours.  Unless a list accompanied the bundle, our count must be accepted.  The company’s liability with respect to any lost or damaged articles shall not exceed 10 times our charges for processing it.


 Non-Disparagement Clause

In an effort to ensure fair and honest feedback, and to prevent the publishing of libelous content in any form, your acceptance of our services prohibits you from taking any action that negatively impacts Amy’s Green Dry Cleaning, its reputation, products, services, management, or employees.  Should you violate this clause, as determined by Amy’s Green Dry Cleaning in its sole discretion, you will be provided a seventy-two (72) hour opportunity to retract the content in question.  If the content remains, in whole or in part, Amy’s will seek damages, legal fees and court costs.

Return Re-do Policy

Amy’s Green Dry Cleaning encourages our customers to inspect your articles upon receipt. We will accept items for reprocessing that we have processed within 15 days of the order pick up date or delivery. Item must be returned to us not worn and in its original packaging. All claims and disputes must be reported within fifteen (15) days and settled via email using the Fair Claims Guide.


Garment Damage

We follow the standards and policies set forth by the Dry Cleaning and Fabricare Institute. We exercise utmost care in cleaning and processing garments entrusted to us and use such processes which, in our opinion, are best suited to the nature and conditions of each individual garment. Nevertheless, we cannot assume responsibility for inherent weaknesses or defects in materials which may result in tears or development of small holes in fabric that are not readily apparent prior to processing. We cannot guarantee against color loss, color bleeding, shrinkage, or against damage to weak and tender fabrics. No claim can be made against Amy’s Green Dry Cleaning for any garment that cannot withstand the normal cleaning process. It is assumed that any item sent in for cleaning is meant to be cleaned with one of our cleaning processes. We cannot accept responsibility for any item that is not meant to be washed, dry cleaned, or wet cleaned unless noted in writing prior by the customer.

Amy’s Green Dry Cleaning liability with respect to any damaged items shall not exceed ten (10) times our charge for cleaning that garment regardless of brand or condition. Amy’s Green Dry Cleaning uses the ‘fair claims guide’ by the Dry Cleaning and Fabricare Institute to determine the value of an item.

Once a claim for garment damage is submitted we analyze the cause of the damage. We will report our findings to you. If you do not agree with our assessment we offer the opportunity for you to send in your garment to the International Fabricare Institute (IFI). The cost for analysis is $175.00. Amy’s will facilitate the shipping of the garment to the IFI. If the IFI finds that Amy’s Green Dry Cleaning caused the damage we will reimburse the $175.00 and start a claim for the damage.

We are liable for up to 10 times the cleaning cost of the garment, regardless of the value of the garment. Please view the IFI Fair Claims Guide.

Loose Items

We do our best to track loose items but we are not responsible for items left in or on your garments. This includes but is not limited to belts, jewelry, beads, cash, detachable buttons, cufflinks, etc. Please make sure to empty your pockets prior to leaving items with us. We cannot be held responsible for damage to your garments from items left in pockets.

Misplaced Items

Any missing items must be reported before leaving the store or at the time of delivery. Amy’s makes its best effort to track every item that we process and will review all lost items claims on a case by case basis. Any items determined to have been lost by Amy’s will be reimbursed in accordance with the Dry Cleaning and Fabricare Institute and shall not exceed ten (10) times our charge for cleaning that garment regardless of brand or condition.

Deliveries and Manifest

At every delivery a driver will present a manifest of all the items that are being delivered. The manifest has been checked for accuracy prior to delivery by Amy’s at our cleaning facility. At the time of delivery it is requested that the receiving party verify the accuracy of the manifest by counting all the items and matching them to the total number of items on the manifest. Once the manifest has been received all items listed on the manifest will be considered delivered. Amy’s assumes no liability for any garments once they have been received. We are not responsible or stolen orders delivered in halls, doorways, or unsecured areas, etc.
